Chrono Trigger Unglued - Episode 23: "Let's Get Enertroned!" is Here!
After a year of waiting (really sorry about that, I'll explain that further down) Chrono Trigger Unglued: Episode 23 is finally here! Watch as Crono and Company discover that maybe going south wasn't the most productive of directions to travel through the raging dust storm in their quest for batteries to put in Lucca's Gate Key. They do - however - have their first encounter with the much lauded Enertron, there's just some minor issues of comfort that have to be overlooked when the device is used. Afterwards, Crono finally acquires some much needed Ether... sweet-sweet Ether!
As for why this episode took so long, my old laptop became virtually completely unusable near the beginning of this year when I found myself charged and wanting to get production on this episode done. Later when I did finally get a new laptop in March, I realized that if I didn't crank-up the writing on my book I would never get it published in time for my mom - who has cancer - to be able to see it before she died. I am glad to say I was able to get it done while she was still alive (she doesn't look so good right now, she probably won't be here much longer). After that, various other forms of delays kept stalling production such that it took 2 whole months to get the episode done after I finally began working on it.
I beg your apologies, I have sacked those responsible (including myself).
Those you who are interested in reading my 100% original book "The Vagrant's Tale" (which is heavily revised from the first draft I showed long ago, and now has 2 bonus chapters never before seen online) you can find it - in dead tree format - for sale here: http://www.amazon.com/Vagrants-Tale-Clovis-Dye-Jr/dp/1463735359/
Anyways, now that Episode 23 is out, a casting call for Dubbed Episode 3 will probably begin soon.
"Fuck SOPA" - ZeaLitY
Chrono Compedium WILL be shut down if the Online Piracy Act (a.k.a. the SOPA) is passed. As well as every other popular fan site and all fan related content on YouTube (gameplay videos) and fan content on other social media sites (Facebook).

See, doesn't that just SUCK? Square-Enix dislikes fan projects as it is by the fan projects they've canceled. Imagine if they had the power to shut down fan sites too? They will not hesitate to use this power! So I highly recommend posting it in the news to inform people about it and encourage them to sign the petitions to stop it.
Combine OverWiki and The Vault Leave Wikia
Interesting news from the fansite realm; The Vault and CombineOverWiki (compendiums for the Fallout series and Half-Life, respectively) are leaving Wikia. The Vault has already transferred to their new location http://www.falloutwiki.com/Fallout_Wiki, while CombineOverWiki is set to move before the year's out. Among the reasons The Vault moved was the presence of far too many ads on Wikia. CombineOverWiki is moving as to gain freedom from Wikia's sometimes-prohibitive policies and intrusive, unwanted design changes. Are we seeing a return to the old fansite paradigm? Sometimes, the Compendium's founders like to mention that it was probably one of the last independent, old-style fansites (with a Wiki, though) to pop up and claim a piece of the net before Wikia came to dominate fandoms. We never considered going to Wikia (though invited), as it would have ruined the community, blocked a lot of content freedom, and forced ads on the site. We welcome these sites' defection from Wikia and wish them the best.

Masato Kato returns to his roots
As some of you may know, Masato Kato's first gig in the game industry, prior to his involvement at Gainax and then Square, was at Tecmo, where he worked on the NES Ninja Gaiden trilogy - games widely considered to be a milestone in video game storytelling for their use of cinematic cutscenes - as an artist and writer. As some of you may also know, when the series was rebooted in the 2000s under the stewardship of Team Ninja and legendarily deranged game designer Tomonobu Itagaki, Masato Kato was nowhere to be found, and while the games themselves were excellent, the storytelling components were - to put it kindly - not so impressive.
Well, according to Yosuke Hayashi, Itagaki's successor and current head of Team Ninja, Kato is back. The studio seems to be interested in making the upcoming Ninja Gaiden 3 more story-intensive than its predecessors (a move which I admit I was initially quite critical of), and to try and make sure they do it right they're going back to the source. According to Hayashi, there will be plenty of throwbacks to the NES games, including multiple characters making a comeback in for the first time in 3D. This is basically Kato's biggest gig since Final Fantasy XI, so I hope it goes well for him and he can get the opportunity to work on more high-profile titles instead of the DS and cellphone games that have comprised most of his career for the better part of the last decade.
For those curious, the Hayashi interview is here, and Ninja Gaiden 3 is currently scheduled to be released in the first quarter of next year for the PS3 and Xbox 360, with an enhanced port coming later in the year as a launch title for the Wii U. Anyone interested in checking out the previous Ninja Gaiden games can download all three of the original NES titles with which Kato was involved on the Wii's Virtual Console for five bucks a pop, and the 3D games (Ninja Gaiden/Black/Sigma for Xbox and PS3, Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword for DS, and Ninja Gaiden II/Sigma 2 for 360 and PS3) should all be easy to find in stores. If you like flashy, fast-paced action games and are up for a serious challenge, I highly suggest giving them a spin.
Oh My God Mega-Explosive Ninetienth-Degree September Power Update
Fall is upon us! Time to kick the fruits of summer into maximum gear and carve a searing path through whatever winter may throw at us! There's not much abuzz in the official world right now, but things on the site have been stirring, and we've got some new remixes, art, and fanfiction to digest.

(Kato wrote the Cloud breakdown/mental journey part of the game.) While there's nothing related to the Chrono series, these lines were cool:
Nyuk nyuk nyuk
Welcome
to Kato's room. A summer bug flying into the fire. A bedbug in a shabby inn. That is what you are.
Huh? There's no way you're thinking of stepping on me, right...? It doesn't matter how many times you tell me I'm just a floor, that's terrible!!
Also present in the debug rooms for FF7 is a map select that allows the player to warp to the field "KURO_5". (This map.) The Japanese version listing for this map is "穴底の恐竜" (Dinosaur at Bottom of Hole). When the game was localized in English, they left the translation of the map select text to a Japanese-speaking employee. This employee localized the listing for KURO_5 as "Tirano", a reference to the dinosaurs of Chrono Trigger.

FFXIII-2 interview with Motomu Toriyama mentions Chrono Trigger
In a recent interview with game director Motomu Toriyama, he explains the time traveling theme of Final Fantasy XIII-2, the sequel to last years Final Fantasy XIII.
https://member.eu.square-enix.com/en/blogs/we-discuss-time-travel-with-final-fantasy-xiii-2s-Motomu-Toriyama
Fast forward to the seventh question:
Jem Alexander: This is the first time time travel has featured so prominently in a FINAL FANTASY game, is this something you'd like to explore more in future games?
Motomu Toriyama: For the FINAL FANTASY series, each game has its own new game system, so it is not as if we are intending on making time travel key to all future instalments. We want fans to look forward to each FINAL FANTASY having its own unique system. For FINAL FANTASY XIII-2, we are experimenting with carrying out repeated large scale user tests to reflect the opinions of users in the game itself. We really have received a lot of feedback about the game, but among the voices there are those who say it reminds them of the classic RPG, CHRONO TRIGGER. For FINAL FANTASY XIII-2, we are aiming to make time travel a major thematic direction, and be able to express this on high-end game machines.
